Rincon Randomness 101

Updated: Dec 12, 2020

Below I will spew some thoughts, experiences, and whatever comes to mind for the next few minutes. Consider yourself warned….you are about to see how my brain works, or perhaps, misfires.

The Choriperro may be the best version of a hot dog I've ever had on the planet.

I love drinking Nescafe rather than regular coffee when traveling. I wouldn’t drink it at home, but in Central / South America, it’s the best.

Milk comes in bags here. Bags that don’t reseal. I pour it in a water bottle to keep in the fridge but I’m not sure what everyone else here does?

People are good. Humanity is alive. We all crave connection, experiences and love. Period.

In Minnesota this year, there was a term being used by those who bought hammocks and strung them up in trees and called it “mocking.” It was a trend around the cities and here, it’s a way of life, not just a way to be cool.

I’ve worn the same 3 dresses the past week - aside from my bikinis, I don’t need much, and realize I could have packed a day pack for this trip!

There is a man who walks the beach and delivers coconuts every day! You drink the water, he then returns later to cut the meat out to munch on. Amazing.

I also found homemade coco oil! If you know me, you know I use it for everything! In the kitchen, the bathroom, and the bedroom. I'm going to help her make some tomorrow, so I can make it myself in the future. I did once in the Bahamas, and it was time consuming - so hopefully she has some tips!

Traveling alone is wonderful and I am constantly reminded of how strong I am. I have to be more careful when alone, being a single woman here makes me more vulnerable, so although I’m adventurous, I can’t venture out as much as I’d like to. That said, having a man by my side is preferable, and I can’t wait to meet my partner in crime who will love me, and traveling, as much as I do.

Food is cheap here! A fish dinner costs $5, and I had a two-tail lobster lunch the other day, with soup, rice, plantains, salad and 3 beers all for $19. Delicioso!

Massages are also cheap - $20! So I’ve had 3 in the past 6 days. Two different masseuses, similar techniques. They both focused on my lymph nodes and spent a good amount of time massaging my stomach. A lymphatic drainage and organs massage is the best way to describe it. When massaging my stomach, they pressed hard, following my digestive tract and could feel the gas bubbles being massaged right down - each time I swore they were trying to massage a fart right out of me! Thank God they didn’t - but it would be funny if they did!

Those who follow my stories keep saying things like, “Jealous!”, “I wish I was there too!” And “One day I’ll get to travel, too.” Well what’s stopping you? I just bought a ticket, and went. Anyone can travel, you can be where you want to be, and you don’t need to wait around for anyone to do so. Buy that ticket, and GO!

There’s a group of security guards, with full armor, that walk the streets here and the road from San Onofre leading to here. I felt safe, but seeing them and knowing their mission, I feel even safer.

If you follow my Instagram stories, you’ll see some magical moments I experience daily. However the real magic is in the little things I experience each day: the interactions with people, seeing the fisherman prepare their boats to leave at dawn, watching how people do things and seeing the kids here full of joy while not having helicopter parents watch and scream at their every move. The sunrises, the sunsets, the people, the dancing, the night swims, the food, the music, the sea, the smiles.....all this and more are what make traveling a time of humility and growth.

My Spanish is getting better! Almost no one speaks English here, so I’m forced to practice.

Kids are in virtual school here because of Covid. They use their phones to learn, instead of getting tablets like in the US. Crazy.

Speaking of which, there have been zero cases of Covid here. ZERO. Everyone is healthy, happy, and I choose to believe it’s due to the easygoing, healthy seaside lifestyle.

I have the weekend off and am going to explore the area as much as possible. Snorkeling the islands off the beach, walking the mangroves out the back, (which I’m dying to see - there’s an expat building a farm that will take me), and enjoy the lazy days reading, eating fruit, seafood, and playing as much as possible.

Being in a tropical setting takes years off of life. Especially mine. My brother recently gave me some crap for wanting to get some sun on my skin. What he doesn’t understand is that it’s not about getting tan, or dark, it’s the feeling I have when I’m in the sun. Being in the sun, sea, tropical air, my hair gets lighter, my eyes get bluer, and yes, my skin gets super tan, but it’s about how all that makes me feel. I feel young, unstoppable, and sexy!

I’m still not a cat person. The more I let the two cats that live outside my Airbnb know I don’t like them, the more they want to be around me. Like what are they trying to teach me?!?

And now, off to work and then the weekend! Ciao!
